THE FORGE — My Story

Preserving a Dying Craft

I work alone in my Sheffield workshop — the same city where silver craftsmanship has defined British industry for over 300 years. Every fork, spoon, and knife is handforged from solid sterling silver, shaped entirely by hand, hallmarked at the Assay Office, and marked with my own maker’s stamp.

THE PROCESS

From Fire to Finish — Every Step by Hand

Step 1 — The Silver
Solid sterling silver sheet is carefully selected and cut to size. No blanks, no pre-formed parts — every piece begins as plain silver.

Step 2 — Forging
Heated in the forge, then shaped entirely by hammer and anvil. Each strike refines the form and strengthens the metal. This is the craft that has nearly vanished.

Step 3 — Shaping & Forming
Hand-filed, planished, and polished. Every curve and angle is shaped by eye and hand — no moulds, no CNC, no machines.

Step 4 — Hallmarking
Sent to the Sheffield Assay Office — the oldest in the UK — to be officially tested and stamped with the full sterling silver hallmark. Your guarantee of quality and authenticity.

Step 5 — The Maker’s Mark
Each piece is struck with my personal maker’s stamp — a permanent signature that tells exactly who made it, and when.

Step 6 — Finishing
Final polish, inspection, and presentation. Ready to become part of your family’s story.
